Hasbro Confirms Power Rangers Movie Plans

The Power Rangers are coming back to a movie theater near you!

At today’s Strategic Decisions Conference, the new owner of the Power Rangers brand, Hasbro, confirmed plans to bring the Power Rangers franchise back to the big screen!

“The fact that we can acquire the Power Rangers brand and plug and play that right into our strategy where we activate it in entertainment, motion pictures in the future and then of course across toys and games and consumer products and do so globally. We felt the brand was very under leveraged and undervalued. We feel we can exploit it to a much greater extent and it was a great opportunity to acquire the brand.” – Brian Goldner, Hasbro CEO

At this time, it remains unknown if Hasbro plans to produce a sequel to Lionsgate’s feature film released in 2017, or reboot the movie franchise entirely.

The news hardly comes as a surprise as Hasbro also owns franchises including Transformers, My Little Pony, and G.I. Joe – all of which Hasbro granted major motion picture releases to in recent years.

Much to the dismay of Power Rangers fans, 2017’s feature film under-performed at the box office after bringing in just over $140 million globally, putting any plans for potential sequels into question. Hasbro could choose to find success by rebooting the movie franchise entirely – with a new cast, new suit designs, new Zords, and more.

While 2017’s Power Rangers movie was produced by Lionsgate, Hasbro’s track record indicates that the company favors Paramount as their movie studio of choice, and could choose to reboot the Power Rangers movie franchise there. Paramount Pictures is the film studio behind the current Transformers and Star Trek movie franchises.

Fans will have to stay tuned to find out exactly what Hasbro has planned for Power Rangers on the big screen in conjunction with their plans for Power Rangers Beast Morphers – the 26th season of Power Rangers premiering on Nickelodeon in 2019.

Hasbro recently acquired the Power Rangers property in full from Saban Brands for $522 million in early May 2018 (recap here).

2017’s Saban’s Power Rangers movie follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world- is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Starring Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Elizabeth Banks, and Bryan Cranston, Saban’s Power Rangers is available on home video now.

        1. concuerdo pero igual aclaro que la peli no estuvo mala, pero que tommy el renger legendario debe ser hombre

          1. He”s confirmed himself an intolerant person many times on this site. It’s what he wants and what he wants only.

      1. Me too. Those who don’t like the movie can’t take off their nostalgia goggles and don’t appreciate character development. It deserves a sequel the cast was great, and to those complaining about Tommy being girl, it would actually make sense since at the beginning of the film Rita was a green ranger. And this is coming from a power rangers fan. Its definitely better than the 1st movie and turbo movie.

        1. I am so sick of These reamiginings of popular established characters for the sake of political correctness. Tommy is one of the most popular characters in in the 25 years span of power rangers. Why would you want to experiment with a fundamental change in that character.

  1. I don’t mind a reboot as long as it’s not rebooted into a PG movie and it’s silly and kiddie. I also would not like it If it take 4 or 5 more years to come out.

  2. Awesome. And I don’t wanna hear any more crap about the 2017 movie. That s**t is old news. I don’t understand why people still talk about it.

I will drink this bottle of beer in my hand and say “Hell Yeah” to this great news

  3. I hope they make a sequel. It would save them the trouble of having to recast people, create a new origin story, plus with Tommy hinted at the end of the first one, it’d be extremely convenient. (Also, the 2017 PR movie is a greatly underrated film; it wasn’t great, but it was sure as heck good.)

      1. I agree completely! Tommy is a male name anyways and in MMPR the green ranger was a male! Society these days, thinking a male pink ranger would be cool…>_< Also I would not mind a hasbro reboot. The suits, the new megazord and the music was lame in the 2017 movie in my opinion.

        1. Tommy can be a girls name. But they spell it, Tommi. Also, this isn’t MMPR this a reboot. So, they can do what they want. It doesn’t need to be the exact same. You just sound like a triggered snowflake. You better run to your safe space.

  4. Get Real. that movie sucked. It was not true Power Rangers. They didn’t even morph until the last act of the movie. I want a proper PR movie. And I have faith Hasbro will deliver while Lionsgate dropped a bomb on the Power Rangers franchise

      1. They morphed twice in the first movie. Once when first encountering Ivan and again in the final act

    1. ahh excuse me both PR films before this they only technically morphed once and both of them largely remained them solving the story unmorphed so this was no different.

  5. It’s unfair to bash this movie just because it’s different and not exactly MMPR, but I guess I should expect nothing from a bunch of judgemental fans. The reboot could of been better, but it’s a pretty good movie and it’s better than almost every Neo-Saban season. And a female Tommy sounds very interesting.

    1. Saban Brands isn’t going out of business for nothing, please keep that in mind. NOBODY wants a female Tommy.

      1. I want a female Tommy (Tomi?). The cast of the first movie wants a female Tomi. JDF said he’s cool with the idea of a female Tomi. Not sure why it freaks you out so much, but you don’t speak for everyone.

        1. 1. I am all for a female Tommy, so you’re wrong about “NOBODY” wanting that.
          2. There never was a female Tommy confirmed for the PR reboot’s unconfirmed sequel so you dislike a 2017 film based on something that might have happened in a sequel that was never released. Cool!

      2. I do, and I have no problem with it because it’s fiction as in, it’s not real. So, it doesn’t affect me. But go ahead be triggered.

      1. Ok fine! I’ll tell you! It wasn’t racist. I personally loved that scene. And I’m black as well so there goes that.

      1. The Black Panther and Black Lighting are also black, so I guess it’s not racist anymore looking at it that way.

  6. What does Saban Brands going out of business have to do with the reboot? You do realize that Haim Saban doesn’t care about Power Rangers anymore and most of the Neo-Saban seasons (except Dino Charge and JUST Dino Charge) were either meh or bad. The original MMPR movie and the Turbo movie weren’t too special in the box-office either. Plus the MMPR movie sucked in my opinion and I like MMPR.

    1. Since the original Green Ranger was a female (Rita Repulsa), they hinted towards the end of the movie that their version of Tommy would be a girl.

  7. im a fan of power rangers since kid..from malaysia..i dont care even they want reboot or sequel..i will waiting for it and will watch it..upcoming Beast Morpher..i din watch a single episode of Go-Buster..but i excited to watch this Beast Morpher…

  8. Thank you Hasbro. We deserve a sequel. Those actors were fine and the movie was good. We don’t need a reboot. Anthing it was missing was due to budget cuts. That movie was real good. Plus it made budget so how much damn money did you expect to make off the movie????? Just don’t make tommy a girl please. Outside of that, sequel yes with same cast and then you have the whole pr universe to work with a part 2. They have the zeo crystal now maybe they get stronger, maybe they become zeo Rangers, maybe the zords get updated you got the whole universe to use. Just pick a good villain because Rita was great that will be hard to top.

      1. It was only a failure because it went up against Beauty and the Beast and Wolverine. There was no way a film from a very small audience was going win against those odds. If it was released a little later it would have done much better.

  9. It seems like me and Jerry are the only intelligent members of this ridiculously stupid fandom of idiots.

    1. No, it seems like you too are either trolls or the same troll because of your writing it’s too similar. Your writing looks like a 12-year-old is typing these posts.

  10. Either a reboot or sequel to me is OK to me. But my ultimate wish is that the Legendary war or Legacy war would be rebooted to a movie since the last episode of Super Megaforce was “totally unexpected”

  11. Reboot please! The only thing I liked about the 2017 movie was the alien spaceship they used as a base and how they made zordon look. Other than that, the suits were very ugly, the zords by themselves didn’t look bad but the megazord, that was very ugly. also the music in the movie was horrible. So yes, I would love a hasbro reboot!

  12. I’d been fine with either a sequel or reboot. Everyone has different feelings but for me I really liked the movie and would love to see a sequel. A reboot would also be cool though. Every person has the right to voice how they feel but no matter who produces the movie you can’t expect it to be 100% perfect. No movie in the world comes without flaws and we need to accept that. Any movie produced by any company will always have both lovers and haters and neither side can change the opinion of the other.

  13. For the sequel of the power rangers movie now from Hasbro bring the cast from last year power rangers movie please cast a male or female green ranger and weapons plus morphers and new episodes of power rangers super ninja steel plus Halloween and Christmas special first look at power rangers beast morphers coming to nick either January 2019 power rangers Hasbro welcome abroad to a new home rangers forever

  14. I think that there should be a sequel. The cast was great! Why would they make another reboot when they already did last year, I don’t think anybody would want to watch another reboot in theaters. Hasbros should stick with the storyline of the one from 2017. A female Tommy sounds pretty dope to me.

  15. Even though Lionsgate screwed up with the 2017 reboot, a sequel wouldn’t be bad if Hasbro can make the next movie better. It wouldn’t make since to have two reboots. So just stick with the sequel and make a comeback from the last movie. Just don’t have a female tommy.

  16. Even though Lionsgate screwed up the 2017 reboot, Hasbro can make a sequel and revive the franchise of power rangers. Making another reboot doesn’t make since because they already made one. Let’s just hope Hasbro doesn’t screw the next movie up, by having a female Tommy.

  17. I am so sick of These reamiginings of popular established characters for the sake of political correctness. Tommy is one of the most popular characters in in the 25 years span of power rangers. Why would you want to experiment with a fundamental change in that character.
