Power Rangers Movie’s Missing Power Weapons Explained

Saban’s Power Rangers movie is now out on home video – on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.

And one of the fans’ most curious questions is what happened to the remaining Power Weapons – the specialized battle gear harnessed uniquely by each Ranger in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV show.

In Saban’s Power Rangers movie, the Red Ranger’s Power Sword was seen on full display (albeit incredibly briefly), while the other four Power Weapons never made the final cut.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Director Dean Israelite explained exactly what happened to the Blue Ranger’s Power Lance, the Black Ranger’s Power Axe, the Yellow Ranger’s Power Daggers, and the Pink Ranger’s Power Bow.

The honest answer is that I had to cut that stuff for budget. – Director Dean Israelite

The film received a $100 million budget, but the Power Weapons were still a casualty of exceeding the film’s financial limitations – primarily due to their heavily CG design.

Israelite hinted that the remaining Power Weapons resembled Jason’s Power Sword – combining a solid, physical prop with a mystifying blue aura that would require CG effects.

“It became very hard. Because each weapon – even Jason’s – Jason has his weapon but is a mixture of the physical prop and the CG enhancement. And sometimes it’s always fully CG. So that would have to hold true for all other unique designs. And each element you design is its own thing. So it becomes very difficult, you know, multiplying the same pattern a million times is much easier than creating 5 unique different things. So we just had too many elements, we had too many assets, and I thought we could hold off for another movie.” – Director Dean Israelite

As most dedicated Power Rangers fans know, the Rangers can also combine their five Power Weapons to form the ultimate Power Blaster – and perhaps those designs will see the light of day should Lionsgate ever green-light a sequel to Saban’s Power Rangers movie.

    1. Apparently there was a subplot that was cut about Jason becoming the leader and summoning the Power Sword. They compared it to Arthur pulling Excalibur from the stone. Most of that plot line was cut, except for the scene near the end where Jason comes back to the Command Center and puts the sword in that holder. Zordon tells him, “You should keep that. You earned it.”

  1. Hopefully they’ll release the designs for the other 4 weapons one day. I would love to see them, even if there’s no sequel.

  2. Funny how The Entire Tv Series over 24/25 years Never had This Problem; They could have done something like the Tv Series ( pick one )And you would of had the weapons. Poor Choice in Director led to Movie’s Poor Preformance in The Theaters. With The Budget he had; everything should’ve been in the movie, now Power Rangers died a Slow death at the Box office. No Sequel Or Anything. Lost To Much Money on making it and advertising. Even the DVD sales won’t help.☹️☹️☹️

    1. That’s because about 40% of the TV footage was already used footage from the original Super Sentai series from Japan. Lol.
