Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8 Spoiler-Free Review

This review for Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8 from BOOM! Studios is SPOILER-FREE. The issue goes on sale March 21, 2018.

As the final prelude to Shattered Grid, the highly anticipated event that brings together teams from all across Power Rangers’ 25-year legacy, Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8 packs one powerful punch that promises to excite fans even more than they already imagined.

Up to this point, Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers has spent time deep diving into the personal lives of our heroes. Among the intriguing storylines explored thus far include Billy’s tussle with abandoning his Ranger duties for an elite internship at a top secret tech sector, Jason’s dynamic relationship with Trini that’s budding with flirtation, and Kimberly’s epic saga with her boyfriend, Matt – a man who’s spent time as a prisoner held captive by Rita Repulsa.

Many of those aforementioned storylines were just hitting their climax when the previous issue dropped off, and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8 does a terrific job of hitting the ground running, while bringing a rewarding conclusion to many of those storylines – at least for now. Readers will be left feeling satisfied as many of the story arcs the comic series opened over the first 8 issues reach their end, with Shattered Grid finally coming into focus.

Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8 picks up exactly where readers were left off, with Rita’s shape-shifting Putty having just crashed Angel Grove’s homecoming dance. The Rangers spring into action to combat one of the franchise’s most grotesque creatures yet, but quickly learn that this isn’t your average Putty. It’s certainly more powerful, and provides the Rangers with one of their most challenging battles yet. And because of it’s ability to read into our heroes’ strengths and weaknesses, readers are treated to even further insight into the Rangers’ daily minds.

The issue by Ryan Parrott is packed with action, including a compelling Megazord fight that certainly justifies the issue’s main cover by Dan Mora (seen below). Fans looking for an intense combination of both storyline and sizzle are sure to find what they’re looking for in Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8.

The issue also brings one of the franchise’s most iconic villains into the conversation, Lord Zedd, as revealed in the issue’s preview pages. Not only was it revealed that Lord Zedd murdered Goldar’s brother, the issue explains Goldar’s reasoning for staying loyal to Rita Repulsa. For a comic book series that’s spent so much time exploring the relationships between the Rangers, it’s refreshing to see the series begin to explore more of the relationships that exist between the franchise’s evildoers.

Yet for all the praise that’s been laid down on Ryan Parrott’s latest work thus far, the highlight of the issue undoubtedly comes in the issue’s closing pages. With Shattered Grid on the horizon, fans are thrust into full gear with a shocking twist that will leave readers clamoring for more.

The artwork remains incredible as always, the stories remain compelling as always, and this prelude will leave one definitive thought in readers’ minds: Shattered Grid has indeed arrived, and we’re ready for every minute of it.

FINAL SCORE: 9/10

Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers #8 delights readers to more of the gripping relationships that have made this comic book series a staple in the Power Rangers fandom, while delivering a jaw-dropping twist that will leave you buzzing for the arrival of Power Rangers: Shattered Grid.
