Robert Axelrod, the voice of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers‘ Lord Zedd, has passed away.
Axelrod’s agent shared the news on Twitter on the morning of September 8, 2019. Axelrod was age 70.
The actor passed away in Los Angeles, California, although the exact reason for his death is not yet known. Axelrod had spent most of the year battling tough medical bills after a back surgery left more difficult symptoms to deal with than expected.
Axelrod is best known by fans after meeting him at conventions throughout the year, where they could share their love for his best known character, Lord Zedd.
He also portrayed the voice of Finster on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and various other characters throughout Power Rangers, Digimon, and Anime series’.
Axelrod joins the ranks of other Power Rangers actors who have passed away this year, including Pua Magasiva from Power Rangers Ninja Storm, and Alistair Browning from Power Rangers Dino Charge.
Other notable Power Rangers actors to have died include Thuy Trang who portrayed Trini the original Yellow Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Peta Rutter who portrayed Udonna the White Ranger on Power Rangers Mystic Force, Grant McFarland who portrayed Lothor and Sensei on Power Rangers Ninja Storm, Richard Genelle who portrayed Ernie on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Erik Ray Frank who portrayed David Truehart, the brother of Tommy Oliver, on Power Rangers Zeo, and Edward Albert who portrayed Mr. Collins on Power Rangers Time Force.
Axelrod’s passing caused an immediate outpouring of support from the Power Rangers community, including Robert’s season cast members, other former Power Rangers from various seasons, and fans around the world.
